Now that the sub has been digested (and, to answer mom's question, shared among friends and family. Matt and Christina can vouch.), we're on to Thanksgiving dinner.
Jess and I are hosting 8, or so, of our friends for dinner tomorrow. Which would make a total of 10 people being fed in this 450 sq ft apartment. Matt, and probably others, are now searching for their anti-anxiety remedies. It's a lot, but we're excited. So much so that we've started the preparations tonight.
Jess started baking the pictured pies around 1:00. I started in on whatever I could get done a couple hours later. In case you're interested, here's the menu for our Bushwick-style, soul food inspired Thanksgiving dinner:
Baby Back Ribs, 2 ways (both with my proprietary dry spice rub)
- White wine, worcestershire, honey and garlic reduction
- BBQ sauce glaze with orange zest and chipotle sauce (based on Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce with my own additions)
Corn Bread Stuffing
- with Andouille sausage, fennel and red pepper
Macaroni and Cheese
-Sharp White cheddar and Gruyere with shallots, bacon and Panko breadcrumb crust
Vegetarian Chili
Cold Haricot Vert Salad with Crispy Shallots (my new take on green bean casserole)
- with a dill vinaigrette
Spicy Okra
- with diced tomatoes and Jamaican hot peppers
Cornbread Casserole
- Mom's recipe and perennial favorite
Mashed Potatoes with Kale
- a household favorite
Biscuits and Country Gravy
And for dessert:
Lattice-crust Blueberry Pie
Sweet Potato Pie
Pecan Pie with Orange Zest
We hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!
Wow. I am officially impressed and envious about your feast! We had a lovely, yet loud day with the Storms-Guerin clan. I am very interested in this corn casserole, I think I had it at Peggy and Myron's house. It sounds excellent. Matt contributed 2 apple pies this year. I made a sweet potato and sage-butter casserole. Our dishes were big hits with the family. We didn't take any pics though.
